What I had to implement to simplify my work

What I had to implement to simplify my workfeatured

All businesses depend on business processes to function properly and create revenue. Developing a business process was very important for me to invest in to improve my company’s inefficiencies. I had to gain a better understanding of my operations in order to correct errors, train new staff, and improve performance of existing employees and departments. Here are some of the steps I took:

  1. I had to identify all the things that happen on a day to day with my business. There are things that you expect to happen every day. Those are the things that I decided to focus my attention on.
  2. I created a report that documented all the process that occur in a day and state what each employee/subcontractor’s role is. This is definitely a very time consuming exercise but this provided me a greater understanding of exactly what tasks are being performed. I had to ask what happens at the start of the process, what happens during the process and what happens at the end.
  3. I evaluated whether all of the actions in my process was necessary, productive, and contributed to the goal. This is where I had to identify if any job performed is being repeated.
  4. I had to eliminate or change steps in each process that are counterproductive or erroneous. This can be a gradual process until everyone is on-board, fully committed or comfortable with their new roles.
  5. Finally, I created a flow chart of each business process. I had to visually represent the start, input, and output of each step. This has become an important tool for training new people as well as improving the performance of the current staff.

What are you the things you had to fix in your company or in your current role? Please feel free to share your experiences with me.
